You have to run a cron job in Magento 2 to schedule some essential activities in your store further. The cron allows you to plan activities such as catalog price rules, newsletters, Google sitemaps, notifications, currency auto updating, etc. To force Magento 2 cron to run properly Adobe recommends you to run cron as the file system owner, and not run cron as a server user too.
You can quickly setup a cron job in Magento 2 manually:
- First, you have to create a class and add a ‘Cron’ folder
- Second, set up a cron schedule via PHP: bin/magento cron:run
- Then find a new log in the var/log/system.log
- Login to your Magento 2 store as an admin to proceed with Magento 2 cron configuration. Then follow the path: Stores > Configuration > Advanced > System and change cron configurations for specified groups as you need
- Check if Magento 2 cron is running.
