What to expect from Magento 2.4 release?

On December 5, 2019, Magento announced that they are working on a new version of Magento. The exact release date of Magento 2.4 isn’t yet known, but it will be released in 2020. We don’t have a lot of data about the new version of Magento, but according to announced info, Magento 2.4 will have some exciting features. So let's see what to prepare for.

GraphQL performance improvements

The Magento team is working to improve GraphQL performance. According to R&D results, GraphQL functionality will be highly-performing. Also, Full GraphQL coverage will be allowed to admins. That means, Magento makes another step to boost PWA popularity among Magento 2 Merchants.

Due to the new version release, Magento will close and archive the current graphql-ce GitHub repository. But they promise to open a new repository very soon and offer you collaboration on GraphQL storefront effectivity improvements.

Another huge update that will be introduced in Magento 2.4 is the new concept of the Storefront API. Internal API usage and entitlement API (Apollo) are the other novelties that we can wait for in the feature release.

Other features

There are some other points where we can expect changes and improvements such as:

  • Client-rendered frontend framework;
  • Extension management and registration;
  • B2B plugins;
  • Adobe products integration;
  • Asynchronous import;
  • Admin panel design and UX;
  • Automated upgrades and security patches;
  • Bug fixes.

In addition to the above, we want to remind that Magento is an open-source platform, and every community member can give a hand in developing a new version. For this, Magento already opened a 2.4-develop branch in the Magento 2 project repository.
