What is a Magento 2 data feed?

A data feed is a mechanism for delivering product data streams from Magento 2 to comparison shopping engines, marketplaces, affiliate networks, selling channels or other systems either automatically or on demand.

Why generating a data feed can be a challenge:

  • You need to comply with the standards of different shopping engines;
  • You have to monitor how fresh data feeds are to present accurate info about products to marketplaces;
  • You often need to handle multiple products, several store views, and currencies.

All these challenges can be easily solved with a specially developed tool - Data Feed Manager.

3 reasons to try the Magento 2 Data Feed Manager

  • Reduce the time required for data feed generation;
  • Automatically update product data in the catalogs of shopping engines and other systems;
  • Easily manage catalogs in multiple shopping engines and systems.

Key Features

Create data feeds for multiple shopping engines

With this module, you can easily generate data feeds that comply with the requirements of almost any shopping engine, including Google, Bing, Shopping.com, and Facebook. Use inbuilt templates, customize the product feed content, and let Magento 2 deliver a data feed in the required file format – XML, CSV, or TXT. The Magento 2 Data Feed Manager also supports compressed ZIP/BZ/GZ archives to speed up a data feed downloading and uploading.

Customize data feeds the way you need it

This Magento 2 data feed generator allows you to tweak multiple parameters to create an accurate data feed for any shopping engine:

  • Use 5 settings to configure the price format in line with the standards of marketplaces and set a custom price format per each data feed;
  • Use custom values instead of any field value while generating the feed. Define custom attribute values per every data feed;
  • Mind the URL length while generating a data feed. For products assigned to several categories, make the module use either the shortest or longest path;
  • Include any types of products in your data feeds: simple, virtual, bundle, downloadable, grouped, and configurable ones;
  • Map product categories in line with a shopping engine requirements;

  • Exclude particular categories from the data feed. For example, if Red shoes are listed both in Women shoes and in Sales, you can drop one of the categories in one click;
  • Try multiple flexible conditions for advanced product filtering. Sort products by attributes and fill a data feed with items with regard to products categories and attribute values;
  • Add media: incorporate product base images and thumbnails into the data feed;
  • Define the store view and price currency per a product feed if you have a multistore Magento 2 configuration.

Autosend updated data feeds to shopping engines

If you revise the product catalog quite often, updating several marketplaces on changes can take a lot of time. Consider using the cron option to schedule regular generation and sending of data feeds via an FTP/SFTP client. All you need to do is to configure a Magento 2 data feed and pick a convenient time interval (say, 8:00 AM) and frequency (hourly, daily, weekly, etc.).

Analyze product performance per a shopping engine

To make the monitoring of your campaigns more convenient, the Magento 2 Data Feed Manager supports Google Analytics. After you set UTM parameters, the extension will add these custom tags to URLs in the data feed. This way, you can use your GA account to track the results of your campaigns displayed by products, categories, and shopping engines.

Try a 4-step data feed generator

The Magento 2 Data Feed Manager includes a special Feed Wizard that you can use to organize the feed generation work as a flow. The Wizard guides you through 4 consecutive steps. As a result, you quickly get a ready data feed with all proper configurations:

Step 1: Map categories

Using an editable grid, you can rename categories to comply with a marketplace requirements.

Step 2: Set basic product info

The Magento 2 Feed Wizard helps you to configure must-have parameters of a data feed, such as item IDs, descriptions, store views, currencies, etc.

Step 3. Add optional info

At this stage, you can specify such data feed parameters as price type, sales price type, gtin, mpn, etc.

Step 4. Run and upload

Finally, you can set general data feed configurations and run the cron option.

This module is as flexible as vendor promises. I create data feeds for google and facebook with the wizard. To work with bing, shopping.com and amazon I use templates and custom feeds. Normally, everything works fine. Though sometimes minor bugs happen.

Good extension with GA support
My advice: don’t miss out on GA support. I use conditions to generate feeds for parts of my catalog and upload feeds with different UTMs. This way, I see how groups of my products perform on marketplaces and how marketplaces actually work for me.
Good module. Easy to run and use. Recommended.
Very good extension by a good team
I checked some free extensions first and then went with this one. Though not free, this extension is worth its money and runs without major bugs. Mind that customizing new feed templates will take time and a lot of thinking. But once you get it, you will definitely like how fast your work with shopping engines can be. Just in case, support is helpful, understanding and super-fast. So my thumbs up, guys!
Value for money
We’ve tried several data feed extensions for Google Shopping and this one is a good value for money. You need no particular tech knowledge to start generating feeds. Just follow steps and get the job done.
Must-have for large catalogs
A crucial extension if you have to manage large data feeds for one or two shopping engines. This data feed generator helped me save a lot of time. Products are changing, inventory is changing, prices are changing. That was such a disaster for me to upload data feeds manually every time.
