In 2023, Amasty successfully achieved WCAG 2.1 level AA compliance for the FAQ and Social Login as well as Blog Pro, Custom Form, and Product Labels extensions. Continuing our ongoing mission to deliver accessible extensions in collaboration with Snowdog, we’re pleased to share yet another WCAG-compliant release with you.

Here are the specific enhancements we've made to our Hyvä-compatible Magento extensions – GDPR Pro and Instagram Feed – to ensure their adherence to WCAG 2.1 AA standards:

GDPR Pro

  • Elements with role="dialog" or role="alertdialog" now have accessible names, allowing screen reader users to easily discern the purpose of these elements.
  • Each <input> in forms has a corresponding <label> element.
  • All IDs used in ARIA and labels are now unique, ensuring compliance with WCAG Parsing standards.
  • All elements with an ARIA role that require child roles now contain them, as required by WCAG 1.3.1.
  • A tablist role was added to enhance semantic structure. All <li> elements are used semantically within <ul>/<ol> tags.
  • All <button> and <a> tags have text available for screen readers.
  • Modals (center pop-ups with a GDPR notification) now have aria-hidden attributes.
  • Collapsible elements in the Advanced Cookie Bar adhere to the Code | Dialog / Modal structure.
  • Scrolling content within the GDPR modal is easily achievable via a keyboard.

Instagram Feed

  • All iframes now have descriptive titles, allowing screen readers to rely on them to describe the contents of each frame.
  • Slider arrows have been optimized to receive focus, enabling users to scroll through the slider using tab-based keyboard navigation.
  • The logic of keyboard navigation for the Instagram Feed sliders has been improved, eliminating any issues with image skipping in carousels.
  • Autoplay functionality is disabled when an image carousel is in focus, aligning with WCAG guidelines to prevent unexpected interruptions for users navigating the content.
  • Carousel elements are now designed to be fully skippable, enhancing user control and accessibility.
