What is the Google Automated Discounts feature?

It is an AI-based feature released by Google that automatically calculates optimal prices taking into account multiple real-time signals (including market prices, seasonality trends, price elasticity, etc) and offers exclusive time-limited discounts to shoppers across Shopping ads and merchant’s websites.

📌 Check out general participation rules

First of all, if you don't see the 'Automated Discounts' tab in your Merchant Center account, you need to enable it by filling in the requested information here. After enabling, you can view integration instructions, and in the future launch automated discounts and monitor their performance in reports.

It is important to note that your account needs to have at least 1000 product clicks per week at merchant level to participate in the program.

When all the mentioned below requirements are met, it is necessary to submit a review request by clicking the button “Request verification” or contacting [email protected].

📌 Upload suitable merchant feed

According to Google’s documentation, the auto_pricing_min_price and cost_of_goods_sold attributes must be added in the merchant feed for products you are going to launch automated discounts.

The first attribute reports the minimum price below which you don’t want the discount to be applied. The second attribute indicates the cost of goods sold (COGS). The regular price provided in the feed is considered by Google as the maximum price.

You can easily include these 2 parameters in the feed by generating it with the help of the Amasty Product Feed extension.

With Google Automated Discounts for Magento 2, it’s easy to link your Magento store with your Google Merchant Center account by just inserting your unique Merchant Center ID.

📌 Configure conversion reporting

The next requirement involves setting up conversion reporting with cart data, enabling Google to track and optimize performance.

It relies on existing conversion tracking configured for your website. You can use Amasty Google Analytics 4 with GTM support extension to establish a connection with your Google Ads account and access to conversion data by specifying Google Conversion ID and Google Conversion Label.

Moreover, adding the cost_of_goods_sold attribute to the feed during the previous step makes accurate profit calculation possible.

📌 Ensure URL integration

After a user clicks ads with automated discounts, it is expected that the new prices also appear for products on the merchant websites. For this, merchant websites must properly accept and consume Google-provided URLs with JSON Web Tokens that contain data about discounted prices, expiration dates, merchant IDs, currency, etc.

This Magento 2 Discount extension allows your Magento store to decode and validate the information from such URLs and apply Google-recommended prices as new. The new prices will be available on your website only for specific users at least 60 min during their sessions and at least 48 hours after the users add items to the cart.
