Magento 2 Elasticsearch Terms

Magento 2 Elasticsearch is a fast, server-based search engine powered by Apache Lucene (an open-source search engine software library). Elasticsearch indexes content for rapid, context-driven results, suggesting related products, images, prices, and more. It was designed to improve full-text search performance across Magento stores.

Note: While being an open-source solution, Elasticsearch can’t be considered as fully free product, because certain features like access control and security (e.g., SSL encryption) require a paid license, comparing to the price of third-party solutions or being even higher.

Magento 2 Elasticsearch setup is the initial configuration process to install Elasticsearch with your Magento 2 store, requiring prerequisites such as specific server requirements and compatibility checks.

Note: Adobe recommends setting up Elasticsearch or your Adobe Commerce on a cloud infrastructure project even if you opt for a third-party search tool configuration. Elasticsearch settings provide a fallback option in case the third-party search tool fails.

Magento 2 Elasticsearch version compatibility is crucial to ensure optimal search performance.

Adobe Commerce on-premises and Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure:

  • v2.2.3+ supports Elasticsearch 5.x
  • v2.2.8+ and v2.3.1+ support Elasticsearch 6.x

Note: Elasticsearch v2.x and v5.x are not recommended due to their End of Life status. If you have Adobe Commerce v2.3.1 and wish to use Elasticsearch 2.x or 5.x, you must change the Elasticsearch PHP client.

Magento Open Source v2.3.0+ supports both Elasticsearch 5.x and 6.x, with 6.x being the recommended version.

Magento 2 Elasticsearch settings are adjustable configurations that control indexing, search weight, and other parameters to customize search functionality according to store needs.

Elasticsearch Query Handling

Magento 2 Elasticsearch query handling is the system’s way of processing search queries. Magento supports full-text, fuzzy, and other query types, allowing customization for more relevant results. Learn more about configuring quires in the Elasticsearch here.

Magento 2 Elasticsearch configuration is the set of adjustments made to optimize Elasticsearch performance, including indexing management, feature enabling, and settings for optimal search performance. In this article we cover how to configure Magento 2 Elasticsearch.

Magento 2 Elasticsearch autocomplete is a feature that allows to speed up the searching experience and show relevant results in the autocomplete window. This feature also eliminates the need to correct the text of a search query, which leads to a waste of time and effort – time that could instead be spent researching the products of interest.
