How to set up Google Analytics in Magento 2

Google Analytics is a must-have for all websites, therefore the sooner you set it up the more thoroughly you will be enlightened on intending and regular purchasers.

Step 1: Open Google Analytics Account

Go to https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/, choose the ‘Sign In’ or ‘Sign Up’ option (if you haven’t been registered yet) and fill in all the required information:

Step 2: Get Your Tracking ID

Having filled all the necessary information, go to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Get Tracking ID’ button. Then use ‘I Accept’ if you agree with Google Analytics terms of usage.

To see your ID go to the Admin Panel>ACCOUNT column> PROPERTY column>Tracking Info>Tracking Code. The ID number has the next form: UA-XXXXXX-X.

Step 3: Configure Google API in Magento 2

  • To configure Magento 2 Google API, you need to log in to your Admin Panel>Stores>Configuration:

  • Choose Sales>Google API section:

  • Fill in your tracking ID and enable the option. Don’t forget to click the ‘Save Config’ button to finish the Magento Google API configuration.

!You will have to wait for Google to check the data and let you track the activity on your website. The best way to check it is to go to Real-Time Analytics! 

Let's assume that you use the first version of Magento, track user activity and manage not only external, but also the internal store performance. You can also apply Admin Actions Log for Magento 2 if needed.
